Artist Statement

My primary medium is ceramic-based sculpture. My work is figurative, using traditional methods of construction and surface treatment. Over the past number of years, as my technique has improved, I have been making forms that use less and less detail. I have become interested in creating work that leaves room for the viewer to attach his or her own meaning. A long-standing interest in psychoanalysis informs much of my work. I am increasingly drawn to the issue of ambiguity, the uncertainty that what we perceive is shared and understood by another person in the same way.

I have studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Lill Street Arts Center. I have participated in group shows at the Three Arts Club of Chicago, Cornelia Arts Center, Lill Street Arts Center and Dix Art Mix. My work is exhibited in both private and public spaces, including the Kathleen M. Walsh Collection.

I received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Chicago.
